My 8-year-old put the legs on by herself in about twenty minutes, which says a lot about the instructions. It's surprisingly sturdy for a build-it-yourself toy, and watching it creep along the wire really is satisfying.

Snapped it together with my 10-year-old on a rainy Saturday, and the way it actually inched along the wire was way more mesmerizing than I expected. He's already taking it apart to rebuild it, so the mechanical learning is definitely sticking. Two AAA batteries and it's off to the races.

My 8-year-old needed almost no help snapping the pieces together, and watching the legs actually crawl along the wire was way cooler than I expected. The assembly itself taught her about gears and motion without feeling like a lesson. Just remember to grab those 2 AAA batteries beforehand.
