The pencil-and-foil setup felt surprisingly clever — my daughter squealed when the clock display flickered on. Cleanup was easy since it only uses salt water and common pantry items. We’ve already tried it twice with different liquids to see which works best.

My six-year-old and I built the battery together in about ten minutes, and she was thrilled when the big LCD numbers flickered to life and stayed on. It's a fantastic way to show how everyday stuff like salt water and a pencil can actually make electricity.

The foil and salt setup was surprisingly straightforward to get working. It took us maybe 20 minutes to get the clock displaying the time. A perfect rainy afternoon project for my curious 5-year-old.
